 A 78-year-old man who was blind for a decade has regained his sight after he was implanted with an artificial cornea developed by an Israeli company. Jamal Furani from Haifa, israel, who suffered from edema and other diseases, had a damaged cornea, causing a decade of vision loss. Fortunately, following the first artificial cornea implantation developed by Israeli medical tech company CorNeat Vision, he can now see. CorNeat Vision, the biomimetic implant firm said it was the first such successful implant. The artificial cornea, which fits into the eye wall, was implanted earlier this month by Prof. Irit Bahar, director of the Ophthalmology Department at Rabin Medical Center in Israel. Upon removal of bandages, Furani was able to read text and recognize family members, the startup said in a statement earlier this month.   At least 34 people were killed and hundreds more injured after a 6.2-magnitute earthquake hit Indonesia's Sulawesi island early Friday, the country's disaster mitigation agency said. The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 1.28 a.m. Jakarta   time, was six kilometers (3.7 miles) northeast of Majene city at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), according to Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency. In Majene, at least eight people died, 637 were injured and 15,000 residents have been displaced, according to the country's National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB). In the neighboring Mamuju area, an additional 26 deaths were reported, BNPB said. Thousands of residents fled their homes to seek safety following the quake, which could be felt strongly for five to seven seconds and damaged at least 300 houses in Majene, BNPB said.  A notorious kidnapper who operates in Abuja was kidnapped by another kidnapper and had to pay ransom to be released. Patonix reports that Mohammed Amodu was abducted by another kidnapper named Buba Babu and had to pay N1,555,000 for his freedom. The police Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, disclosed this while parading both kidnappers alongside other criminals in Abuja Monday, Jan 11. He said Babu, notorious for kidnapping citizens on Abuja highways, was third in command of a kidnap syndicate headed by one Buji, who was neutralized by the police alongside the second in command. Mba said Babu took leadership of the gang and was notorious for always killing kidnap victims. Babu kidnapped Amodu and when the abducted kidnapper hesitated to pay, he was shot in the arm. Mba said Amodu had boasted he had charms and could not be shot. Babu shot him to show how serious he was. Amodu, Mba said, was known as "Confirm" because he was a reputed marksman in the underworld.  A son to a couple who were brutally murdered together with three others in Karura area, Kiambu county, Kenya, has confessed to the crime. The 22-year-old university IT student identified as Lawrence Simon  Warunge, was arrested on Friday, January 8, as a prime suspect into the incident after a three-day manhunt. Police said they arrested the son identified as Lawrence after he went missing since Tuesday when his parents, two brothers and a worker were brutally murdered at their home in Kiambaa Constituency. After he was arrested, he later confessed to the incident and led police to a residence in Mai Mahiu area on Saturday where they recovered the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, clothes, shoes and a piece of paper. He had thrown the exhibits to a pit latrine. Police dug the wall of the latrine and used ropes to recover the exhibits from the 20-feet deep pit.  Geraint Hopkins, the 'Snakeman', has turned his own home into a zoo with 120 snakes, 70 spiders, frogs, geckos and hedgehogs - and many other animals some wouldn't dream of living with. Geraint, with wife Yolande, have so many animals, they spend several hours a day cleaning up after them. His journey began with one snake which he borrowed from a friend and used to raised money for charity during events.
